From the Desk of Your Humble Editor
A Letter from Brand Mavrick, Creative Director
Welcome to the Panopticon Agency blog
I’ll be honest with you — this website is not my idea. I didn’t approve it, I didn’t request it, and if there were justice in the world, I’d be in a hammock somewhere in Baja instead of dictating brand reflections into a cracked laptop that keeps overheating.
But no — apparently the Panopticon Agency requires an “online presence.” So here I am, a creative director assigned to writing blog posts about clients I barely tolerate and campaigns that make me itch. Why? Because The Boss said so. Or maybe his wife. Or possibly my brother Luke, that grinning Judas with a clipboard, who seems hell-bent on dismantling what remains of my dignity under the guise of “brand transparency.”
I am not a blogger. I am a man under duress.
What you’ll find here — if you have the stamina — is part memoir, part field report, and part unlicensed psychic detonation. It’s where all the excess pressure goes: ideas that won’t behave, ghosts of campaigns that were too strange to live, and half-remembered nights in conference rooms that smelled faintly of despair and toner.
Don’t expect straight lines or tidy conclusions. This is a junkyard of creative combustion. It’s the noise between projects, the static under the signal. If you came for “actionable insights,” I suggest you look elsewhere — maybe LinkedIn, where ambition goes to tan. But if you want the truth — raw, unfiltered, slightly deranged — pour yourself something strong and settle in.
The Panopticon Agency is fictional, but only in the legal sense. If we were real, we'd traffic in strategy, stories, and ideas that often explode in the lab. The staff dress code is theoretical. The work is inconsistent with basic sanity. And somewhere in the building, a man named Dale still believes in focus groups.
I will use this blog as my overflow valve, my confession booth, my padded cell with Wi-Fi. Some of what you read will be satire. Some will be deadly serious. Some may be transmissions from a realm I can’t even locate on Google Maps. You will sometimes sense a faint reverence for the places that make us who we are — and the characters (fictional or otherwise) who hijack the narrative when we’re too tired to steer.
So welcome, I suppose. You’re inside the machine now. Don’t touch anything labeled “prototype.”

This is a test to see if the Boss actually visits this site. So far, no. (I sketched this on a napkin at a Board meeting as he spoke)

Very little about this site is real. The Agency does not exist. The people who run the agency do not exist. We have no revenue model. We sell nothing. Do not send us money or an RFP. If your business has the word "Panopticon" in its name, that is coincidental. This site isn't about you or any other person or business, living or dead. Panopticon Agency is a satirical project by Charles O’Neill.
Built as a fictional ad agency, it explores branding, image, workplace culture, identity, and the polished nonsense of modern professional life. It is not a real agency. It is a creative platform for satire, commentary, invented campaigns, and cultural observations disguised as agency language.
The project connects with Charles O’Neill’s broader work, including Cranky Books and The Cool Gauge.
The satire is intentional. The observations are real.
